Joint statement with Wandsworth Council on Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators’ proposed levy increase

Councillor Ross Garrod, Leader of the London Borough and Merton and Councillor Simon Hogg, Leader of the London Borough of Wandsworth, have issued a joint statement:

“Merton and Wandsworth Councils remain committed to working closely with the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators. However, we were appalled to discover that, in the midst of a cost of living emergency, the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators are proposing to increase their commons levy by more than 12.4% and are also considering increasing the levy by an additional 25% in the future.

Merton and Wandsworth councils are doing everything we can to minimise council tax increases for our residents, and we are calling on the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators to urgently rethink their wholly unacceptable proposals.”
