Nearly 90% of Merton children offered place at top-three choice of secondary school

Every Merton family who applied for a secondary place, starting this September, has received an offer of a school place.  A record number of these families are receiving an offer of a Merton school, reflecting a high confidence in local Merton secondary schools, all of which are rated ‘Outstanding’ or ‘Good’ by Ofsted.

Figures revealed today show that nearly 90% of Merton children have been offered a place in one of their top three preferred secondary schools.

Merton Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, Councillor Sally Kenny said: “We are delighted to be able to offer all children a school place today, and especially delighted that so many families have received an offer for a school within the borough.

“The fact that so many families have named a Merton secondary school as one of their highest preferences shows the confidence parents have in the excellent work our schools are doing.

“The official government measure for last year shows children progress better in Merton Secondary Schools than in all but one local authority area in the whole country.

“Merton is a great place for families and a key reason for this is the first-class learning opportunities we have in the borough.  We are hugely proud of the dedicated work at our secondary schools to ensure all pupils achieve their potential and have a great start in life.”

We would like to remind parents that they should respond to their offer by 15 March and that our School Admissions website gives further details to parents in different circumstances on what to do next.
