Following this evening’s incredibly sad news, confirmed by the police in this statement, Council Leader, Councillor Ross Garrod, has paid tribute to Nuria Sajjad, on behalf of everyone at the council.

On behalf of everyone at the London Borough of Merton, I want to express our deepest condolences and our sadness at this evening's news of a tragic death of Nuria Sajjad, lost as a result of Thursday's devastating incident in Wimbledon. Like everyone else in the borough, our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected.

Following the update from the Met Police this afternoon, the Council Leader, Councillor Ross Garrod, has issued a further statement:

Following the news that two people, including a young girl, remain in critical and life-threatening conditions after yesterday's tragic incident, out thoughts continue to be with all the families impacted, and those who are being cared for in hospital.

Update: Thursday 6 July

We are aware of the incident that has taken place at a primary school in Camp Road, Wimbledon, after reports of a car colliding with a building at the school.

Please avoid the area to allow free access to the emergency services.

Council representatives are working with Merton Police, London Fire Brigade and other agencies.

We will be providing more updates once more information is confirmed.

Our hearts go out to the family of the girl who tragically died, all those who were injured and everyone affected by this devastating incident.

“The thoughts of all of us at the council are with everyone affected by this devastating incident. Our hearts go out to the family of the girl who tragically died, and all those who were injured. Council staff have been on the scene throughout the day working alongside the emergency services and will continue to do so.

“Our priority over the coming hours and days will be to keep supporting the school and this incredibly tight-knit community. We will provide further updates as soon as we can.”
