New Activity Finder launched

The London Borough of Merton has launched a new Activity Finder to help residents find healthy activities and sports clubs, as it continues its journey to become London’s Borough of Sport.

The Activity Finder website is designed to make it easier for anyone looking to take up a new sport or activity in their area by bringing all our local clubs and organisations together into one easy-to-navigate
website.

From boxing, martial arts and yoga to local football, cricket and hockey clubs, the Activity Finder aims to help residents take the next step, whatever their interests or level of ability.

Over 50 clubs and societies have added activities to the website, with almost 1000 different activities currently listed – and that number is growing by the day.

The launch follows Merton’s Big Sports Day, which saw Mitcham host the largest community sports event in south west London, with more than 5,000 people coming along to try new sports and activities. In a follow up survey, 74% of attendees said they were somewhat or very likely to take up a new activity because of the event.

Councillor Caroline Cooper-Marbiah, Cabinet Member for Sport and Heritage, said: “Our amazingly successful Big Sports Day brought Merton’s sporting community together and the Activity Finder website is the next step forward on our journey to becoming London’s Borough of Sport.

“For the first time, anyone looking to take up a new sport or activity locally can easily find one close to where they live simply by searching the website.

“We’re also proud that so many local partners, community groups and professional clubs are using the site by uploading their details onto it, we are hugely grateful for their support.”

If you run a sports club or a society providing activities that help get people moving, and you would like to be listed on the site, contact Merton Council at communications@merton.gov.uk – and if you’re looking for a new sport or activity to take part in use the Activity Finder here.
