Businesses serve up a treat for tennis fans

Did you know? Wimbledon fortnight delivers an estimated £200 million boost to the London economy. Thousands of spectators, players, officials, event staff and media descending on the area from today will inject millions of pounds a day into the local economy through spending on accommodation, food and drink, transport and merchandise.

“We’re focused on making the town centre as impressive as possible for our visitors. We see a 20% increase in footfall during the tennis and that’s great for business,” says Craig Hurring, CEO  Love Wimbledon.

The Sheffield Hallam University study found that compared to a typical week, takings at local restaurants, cafes and shops increase by 20-200% in Merton and by 10-100% in Wandsworth.
