Merton needs cross country runners for London Youth Games

Merton Council needs runners to represent the Borough in the Heathrow London Youth Games Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill, Hampstead Heath on Saturday 24 November.

Cross-country runners aged between 11 and 16 years are needed for the event, which has taken place for the last 20 years. The age groups (age as at midnight 31 August 2001) and distances are:

11/12 years Female – 2,000 metres
11/12 years Male – 2,000 metres
13/14 years Female – 2,000 metres
13/14 years Male – 3,000 metres
15/16 years Female – 3,000 metres
15/16 years Male – 4,500 metres

First, second and third place runners in each category will win a plaque and the top Borough will receive a trophy. All Merton runners will be wearing blue t-shirts to represent the Borough. Those wishing to take part must be either a resident of Merton or attend a school in the Borough.

Councillor Su Assinen, Cabinet Member for Regeneration said: “This is an opportunity for Merton athletes to compete against their age groups for the Borough. It is a fun and enjoyable day for athletes and spectators and demonstrates the talents of the young sportsmen and women of the Borough.”
