Specialist Doors receives a Stop Now Order following complaints to Merton Council
A Merton trader will be shown the door if he continues his poor service levels after complaints to Merton Council’s Trading Standards Department led to the trader becoming the subject of a Stop Now Order from the Office of Fair Trading.
The Council received numerous complaints from unsatisfied customers expressing their anger at the unfulfilling service they received from Specialist Doors in London Road, Morden, which is owned by Mark Talbot. Local consumers complained that Mr Talbot:
·Supplied doors and fitting that were of unsatisfactory quality
·Supplied doors not fit for their purpose
·Supplied doors that did not match their description
·Failed to deliver and/or fit goods within the agreed time or at all
·Fitted goods without reasonable care and skill.
The Council’s Trading Standards referred the matter to the Office of Fair Trading and as a result Mr Talbot gave written undertakings, under the Stop Now Regulations, that he would to stop breaching the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982. The undertakings and assurances cover any business Mr Talbot operates and any breaches could lead to court action.
Merton Council’s Commercial and Trading Standards Manager. Wendy Martin, said, ” As a result of a liaison between ourselves and the Office of Fair Trading we hope Mr Talbot will improve his trading practices so local customers will receive the basic right to goods and services of a satisfactory quality.
“We can assure the local community that we will continue to monitor Specialist Doors and Mr Talbot and will not hesitate to provide the Office of Fair Trading with evidence if the written undertakings are breached in any way.”
Any consumers who have recently experienced problems with Specialist Doors should contact Consumer Advice on 020 8545 3026 and the information will be forwarded to the Office of Fair Trading.
