The Day of the Warden – MPAC ‘Safe and Sound’ Initiative

Merton’s Neighbourhood & Street Warden Team hit the streets last Monday for the ‘Day of the Warden’, to promote the scheme and increase the local communities involvement in and awareness of the service being provided, in targeted areas around the borough.

The Wardens visited community centres, housing associations and estate offices, talking to residents and officers about recent initiatives including Neighbourhood Cocoons and referral schemes with Victim Support, Merton Elderly Secure Homes, MASCOT Community Careline and Merton Mediation Service.

On 1st May, Tony McNulty MP, Regeneration Minister and Minister for London will be attending Merton Partnership Against Crimes safe & sound event. This event will re-launch the Merton Neighbourhood & Street Warden Scheme, which has been in operation for over a year. The Minister will be presenting the national view on tackling crime and the successful involvement of warden schemes in reducing crime and disorder.

The safe & sound event will also premier the Merton Neighbourhood & Street Warden Scheme video, and present the results of the recent community survey and evaluation of the scheme. Partners from the council, housing associations and business and local community will be in attendance and will be sharing their experience of the scheme.
