Merton Council’s Planning Department is calling for residents’ views on a proposal to convert two recently developed garages into flats on the land between Dupont Road and Sydney Road, Wimbledon Chase.
A planning application was submitted by Saloria Architects on 28 January 2005 to convert the new garages into two residential units. The proposed scheme will not require any additional building work, as the size and siting of the garages will not be changed.
The proposal is likely to be considered in April or May. It will be decided whether the proposal meets the borough’s Unitary Development Plan (UDP) for the need of residential accommodation compared with the need for car parking.
The site has previously been surrounded by controversy after a planning application to construct three bungalows and the associated car parking space was refused by the council in 1994, only to be accepted by the Secretary of the State in 1996.
The council has carried out widespread consultation on this proposal and now residents are urged to write to the Planning Department with their views. To express your views please contact Merton Council’s Planning Department on 020 8545 3300
