Mitcham Library opens a new chapter

The newly refurbished Mitcham Library is to be officially re-opened on Wednesday 19 April.

Proceedings for the evening will commence at 7.00pm, when guests and local dignitaries will be served refreshments upon arrival. Mitcham Library re-opened on 3 April after being closed for essential improvement work, which began at the start of January. In place now is a contemporary style interior, which offers its members an affable and comfortable experience

£40,000 has been spent on approximately 6000 new items of stock with many new books adorning the newly installed shelves

The Mayor of Merton, Councillor Judy Saunders, who will be attending Wednesday’s event said:

“As a result of a public consultation exercise, Mitcham Library now offers greater comfort and choice.”

Ingrid Lackajis, Head of Library and Heritage Services, will open the event. Janki Mehta of the Merton Asian Women’s Association will then treat the guests to a dance exhibition. Merton’s Mayor, Councillor Judy Saunders will apply the finishing touches by delivering her speech and cutting the ribbon to declare Mitcham Library officially open.
