Merton Junior Schools Athletics Championships

The newly refurbished Wimbledon Park Sports Stadium will host the Merton Junior Schools Athletics Championships on Thursday 15 June from 11am.

Organised by Merton’s School Sports Partnership Team, athletics will begin at 10am with a prize giving ceremony scheduled for 1.30pm.

David Golton, Treasurer of the London Marathon Charitable Trust will attend the event as special guest in appreciation of the Trust’s funding towards sports facilities and sports equipment in Merton.

The Trust has donated over £300,000 towards the development of sport in the borough since 1991. This funding includes:
· £37,500 to Wimbledon Park’s Watersports Centre for boating equipment
· £147,000 to Wimbledon Park’s Sports Stadium for floodlighting, track and field refurbishment and a women’s fitness facility

The athletics track was refurbished earlier this year under the UK Athletics Community Athletics Refurbishment Programme (CARP) scheme with funding support from Merton Council and the London Marathon Trust.

Inside of the Stadium has also been refurbished to include new disabled changing and toilet facilities

The Merton Junior School event has been organised by Steve Day’s School Sports Partnership team.
