Family fun day
A family fun day will take place on Thursday 22 June between 11pm – 2pm at Morden Hall Park, Snuff Mill, Morden Hall Road, to mark the beginning of National Sure Start Month. Merton’s Early Years and Children Team in collaboration with Merton’s Pre-School Learning Alliance have organised a fun day, which will include face painting, circus acts and a variety of craft activities on what promises to be a fun filled day for all those who attend. To add that element of hilarity to the day, the circus clown that will be present on the day, has volunteered to be thrown in to the River Wandle. Admission is free

Adult reading workshop
A reading workshop to enhance adults’ reading ability took place on Wednesday June 14 at Canons House in Mitcham. The course was aimed at adults who can read and write quite competently, but they are not particularly confident or experienced readers. Run by the BBC, the free RaW (Read and Write) Reads workshop, provided learners with the opportunity to improve their confidence and reading skills. More importantly it highlighted the good work that is going on within Merton’s Adult Education Service. At present there are two national reading and writing campaigns, RaW (Read and Write) and Quickreads run by NIACE (The National Institute of Adult Continuing Education).
