A video project aimed at preventing homelessness amongst young people and ethnic minorities will be launched at the Wimbledon YMCA on Saturday 29 July at 1.30pm.
Merton Council has received £45,000 worth of government funding to work with young people from ethnic minorities to make their own video and DVD on housing issues. This will involve carrying out research interviews with other young people to identify reasons why young people become homeless, and the problems they face in finding housing solutions
The videos and DVD’s will be launched in April 2007. Participants will promote them in secondary schools to educate others on housing issues and options available.
David Simpson, Cabinet Member for Partnerships and Community Safety, said:
“Homelessness among young people is a sensitive and topical research project and I look forward to seeing the results of this research being conducted.”
