Green garden waste trial in Merton

On top of the mountains of rubbish and recyclable items that are picked up by Merton’s Street Management Division, green garden waste is also being collected as part of an ongoing trial.

The collections started on Monday 17 July in New Malden, Mitcham and Morden. Approximately 5,300 Merton residents can now leave their bags of green garden waste out for collection on the regular recycling and refuse collection days.

Councillor Tariq Ahmad, cabinet member for Environment and Traffic Management said:

“One of the major issues raised by residents across the Borough is the need for green garden waste collections. This pilot scheme is intended to provide us with the practical information as we establish the best service for Merton.

“Resident feedback is crucial and I hope those involved with the trial will be proactive in putting forward their experiences and suggestions.”

The object of the trial is to establish the possibility of offering a permanent green garden waste collection in Merton.
