Merton Council and Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL) are pleased to announce that Morden Park Pool will return to full operational capacity early in the New Year.
Both the main swimming and teaching pools were closed to the public following an incident last week, which resulted in a number of ceiling tiles falling into the main pool. As the teaching pool is near to where the tiles fell, it was deemed appropriate for health and safety reasons to close it, as well as the main pool.
Protective netting will be placed above the affected area of the ceiling to prevent further tiles from falling into the pool. The work is starting on Wednesday 20 December and it is expected to be finished within two weeks.
Councillor Tariq Ahmad, cabinet member for Environment and Traffic Management said:
“It is excellent news that both of the affected swimming pools will be reopened early in the New Year. It is very unusual for a facility to be opened so soon, particularly after an incident of this nature.
” All credit to Merton Council officers and GLL for making this possible.”
