Noisy neighbour pays the price

Merton Council’s Environmental Health Team prosecuted Ms Marie Francis of Lammas Avenue, Mitcham in January 2007 for causing a noise nuisance by playing music loudly causing disturbance to neighbours in surrounding properties.
Ms Francis was fined £1,000 and costs of £950 were awarded by Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court to Merton Council. Ms Francis ignored requirements to pay the fine and on the 22nd August 2007 bailiffs visited her property with orders to recover the money owing or seize goods to that value. Ms Francis paid the sums outstanding.
Merton Council will take action against people who cause noise nuisance to their neighbours. If residents are affected by noise nuisance they should contact the Environmental Health Team on 020 8545 3025.
Cabinet Member for Housing and Regeneration, Councillor Diane Neil Mills said:
‘I am delighted with this news. This is a true demonstration that the council is not prepared to accept such selfish behaviour. Merton Council is committed to providing an environment suitable for all of Merton’s residents to live and work in.’
