Merton Adult Education asks residents to explore their potential

Merton residents are being encouraged to explore own potential and check out a host of new and exciting learning opportunities featured in the new autumn prospectus for Merton Adult Education.

The new prospectus boasts more than 200 different courses at various locations across the borough with price concessions available for those eligible while courses that address key skills such as English and Maths are available for free.

Highlights from the autumn prospectus include a host of courses for people looking to fine tune their professional skill base or investigate a completely different profession. MAE’s childcare courses equip level 3 graduates with a qualification to practice as teaching assistants.

The college is also running the Olympics 2012 Personal Best Volunteer Programme, which is free to those who are currently without employment and would like to gain skills to volunteer for the 2012 Olympics and gain a qualification.

As Merton Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Services, Councillor Linda Scott, says, it is never too late to start learning something new or building on existing skills:

“There has never been a better time to investigate potential training opportunities that could make you a stronger candidate for a job or steer you down a career path you never expected but could well enjoy.

“The Olympics 2012 Personal Best Volunteer Programme is a particularly interesting course that gives people an opportunity be a part of one of the biggest events in the country’s recent history while also gaining a qualification.

“There really is something to suit everyone and I would encourage all residents to pop down to the Merton Adult Education Centre during next week’s open day to see what’s on offer to suit their needs and interests.”

An open day for residents interested in finding out more about particular subjects will be held at the Merton Adult Education Centre on Whatley Avenue, London SW20 9NS on Wednesday 8 July from 10am to 2pm and from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
