Merton shortlisted for award

Merton Council, in partnership with the New Wimbledon Theatre and the Wimbledon Civic Theatre Trust, has been shortlisted for the prestigious Public Private and Partnership Achievement of the Year. The award is part of the Municipal Journal Achievement Awards 2010 and is for their joint efforts in ‘Raising Aspiration Through The Arts.’

The initiative brings together local people, organisations and groups who combine facilities, expertise and enthusiasm for the arts to improve cultural opportunities within the borough. ‘Community lets’ of the New Wimbledon Theatre and the provision of outreach education programmes empower local people and contribute towards ‘Raising Aspiration through the Arts’.

Winners will be announced at the gala awards night on Thursday 24 June 2010 at the Hilton Hotel, London Park Lane and will be hosted by TV presenter, Michael Portillo.

Merton Council’s director for environment and regeneration, Chris Lee, ” This is wonderful news, being shortlisted for an award, celebrates how the arts community are working together with the council for wider community benefits and clearly are being recognised nationally for their efforts.”
