More than £1 million recommended for local civic pride and climate change initiatives

Twenty-five bids have been recommended to share more than £1 million from Merton Council’s Civic Pride: Investing in Neighbourhoods Fund, and the Community Climate Action Fund.

Two additional projects from previous years will also receive top-up funding to enable them to continue. All are subject to approval from the Council’s Cabinet later this month.

Full details of all the bids can be found here (Pages 643-668).

The recommendations come after a five-week bidding window held in the autumn, and final decisions will be published on 26 February. If Cabinet agrees with the recommendations this would result in an investment of £882,210 Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy funding, and £166k Community Climate Action Funding. A further bidding round is to open later in 2024.

Councillor Natasha Irons, Cabinet Member for Local Environment, Climate Change and Green Spaces said: “We were delighted at the quality of the bids for the Investing in Neighbourhoods Fund and the Community Climate Action Fund. We can’t wait to see the positive impact that these projects will have on our communities and the environment.”

Councillor Eleanor Stringer, Cabinet Member for Civic Pride added: “Working with the community to find solutions to the challenges that we face is a great way to create civic pride, help create a Borough of Sport and deliver a sustainable future.”
