Merton Council tackles fallen trees after storm Bert

Merton Council’s Greenspaces arboriculture team and tree contractors, Barkland Tree Specialists, are on the ground responding to reports of fallen and damaged trees across the borough due to strong winds from Storm Bert over the weekend.

These emergency tree maintenance works have been taking place, since the reporting’s started yesterday (24 November 2024).

They’re currently handling live cases, prioritising trees on roads and motorways to ensure public safety.

Highways and parks tree inspectors will also be out today on targeted inspections linked to High Risk Trees as high winds are forecasted throughout the day.

We also have Barkland Tree Specialist teams in the borough on Pollarding duties who will be on call to pick up any further incidents.

IdverdeUK, our Parks Contractors, are helping with reporting dangerous trees in parks, open spaces, cemeteries, and allotments.

Any trees that have fallen will be replaced in the next planting window in line with the councils Tree Strategy commitments. Trees with little damage or part-damage may be felled or cut back.

If you spot a fallen tree on a road or in a park, report it to Street Trees at StreetTrees@merton.gov.uk or visit our Report It page.

NOTE: Please be aware that Merton council would never charge residents for tree removal services.

Thanks for everyone’s help in reporting damaged or fallen trees.
