Merton Council has helped breathe new life into the South Mitcham Community Hall with its funding for a brand new floor.
On Tuesday 16 February residents, councillors and Merton’s Mayor Councillor Nick Draper, celebrated a new chapter in the life of the hall. Dancers and fitness gurus in colourful costumes made full use of the space, injecting energy and vitality into the celebrations. Volunteers provided an abundance of homemade cakes and refreshments.
Merton Council funded the floor to the tune of £12,700 as part of its neighbourhood renewal strategy, designed to ensure that no one is disadvantaged by where they live. More information on the strategy can be found at http://www.merton.gov.uk/nrs
Merton Council cabinet member for finance and regeneration Councillor Diane Neil Mills said: “This is a wonderful hall with so much to offer the local community. Places like this often provide a lifeline and a great social life to many people in Merton. The beautiful new floor will be the site for many joyful events to come, and we’re launching a new chapter in the life of the hall in true style.”
