Merton’s foster carers were given the praise and recognition they deserve at a special reception last Friday, 21 May at Cannizaro House.
The reception helped celebrate the hard work and dedication of each and every one of Merton’s foster carers, and the difference they make to hundreds of children every year.
One foster carer, Doris Barrett, was awarded with a long service award for her commitment to fostering for ten years. Doris has fostered 45 children in Merton since she started fostering in 2000.
Yvette Stanley, director for children, schools and families at Merton Council said:
“Foster carers have one of the most important, challenging and influential roles in our community. They provide loving and stable homes to children who need them the most.
“It is important that we recognise the selfless commitment and hard work that foster carers give to children and our community day after day. This night was an opportunity for us to celebrate our foster carers and to say ‘thank you’ from Merton.”
